Tackling Obesity in Malaysia with Public-Private Partnerships
To address the grave problem of obesity and related lifestyle diseases in Malaysia, government is working with the food industry, educational institutions and civil society, says Dr Chong Chee Kheong, Director of the Disease Control Division at the Ministry of Health Malaysia.
Dr Chong was a guest at the launch of the “Tackling obesity in ASEAN: Prevalence, impact, and guidance on intreventions” report on 6 June in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
In an interview with the Secretariat of the Asia Roundtable on Food Innovation for Improved Nutrition (ARoFIIN), the regional multi-stakeholder network that commissioned the report, Dr Chong emphasised the importance of public-private partnerships in tackling public health challenges, particularly the significant prevalence rate of obesity and overweight in Malaysia.
